Techies retreat to the beach to tweak their Technique

Published 04.02.10

An innovative new training programme for North West web developers last weekend received a fantastic response from attendees.

Twenty-five web and app developers descended upon Morecambe’s Midland Hotel for ‘Technique’, an intensive residential training camp designed to help develop digital skills.

The event was attended by up-and-coming developers from some of the region’s top digital agencies, including Code Computerlove, Stardotstar, Creative Lynx and Fudge, as well as some dynamic young companies such as We Are Creators, Fluid Creativity, Red Abbey and Lamp Digital.

Participants were brought together to undergo practical, hands-on workshops in some of the most prominent and in-demand skill areas. These were led by experienced developers with international reputations in their specialist fields, including Seb Lee-Delisle (Plug-In Media/Papervision3D), Peter-Paul Koch (Quirksmode) and Luis Lavena (Area 17).

Technique was presented and funded by Northwest Vision and Media, which works on behalf of the digital and creative industries in the region. The programme has been created and delivered in partnership with Manchester consultancy The White Room.

Paul Collins, Project Manager for The White Room said: “Technique is a new approach to digital skills development - more dynamic than a regular training course, and more in-depth and personal than a conference. By providing the right environment, people and resources, we are helping some very talented people to ultimately teach themselves, inspired and coached by seasoned professionals.”

Lynn Kelly, Head of Skills at Northwest Vision and Media said: “As the region’s interactive network expands, we’re committed to supporting, developing and promoting their key areas of activity in every way we can, which includes facilitating ?events and training programmes such as Technique.

“As well as a unique chance to receive expert technical advice from guest trainers, Technique also offers the chance to swap skills, experiences and approaches with developers from across the North West. We’ve received some fantastic feedback from this year’s attendees and we’re looking forward to holding more of these events in the future.”
